Family Gymnastics Challenge
On Friday, September 16th, as part of National Fitness Day and the European Week of Sport, Gymnastics Ireland and Sport Ireland are challenging the whole family to get up and #beactive. We have set a number of gymnastics skills for you to complete and we encourage ALL members of the family to take part from toddlers right up to granny and grandad. You will be in with a chance to have your video posted on the Gymnastics Ireland website and there are some fantastic prizes on offer too!
All you have to do is video your family / team carrying out the challenges as outlined below and post it online on Friday, September 16th, using the hashtags #beactive and #gymnasticsireland. You can also tag us @gymnasticsire.
Guidelines:
1. Select your team (at least two adults and one child and a maximum of 8), your team captain (who speaks on the video), your team name, your skills and a safe place to complete the challenge.
2. Set the scene (introduce all team members, your team name and tell us where you are)
3. Each participant completes each skill challenge one after the other, except for group activities
4. Once complete, tell us why we should choose your team to win!
Challenge 1 - A roll – any type
Challenge 2 – A handstand or cartwheel (best attempt!)
Challenge 3 – Jump Full Turn (or more turns if you are able)
Challenge 4 – A group balance activity involving the whole group (held for 3 seconds)
Challenge 5 – Free Choice. Each team member can ‘show off’ any gymnastic skill of their choice
Videos can be recorded indoors or outdoors, can be done with music and are a maximum of 4 minutes. See our sample video below to see what is involved.
We have some fantastic prizes from GymGym, plus some Gymnastics Ireland branded merchandise on offer to the best videos submitted! Prizes will be decided by Gymnastics Ireland staff and the more creative the videos are the better chance you have to win! It’s not about the how well you can perform the skill but about getting the whole family involved and giving it a go! Remember to clearly state in your video, your team name and where in the country you are!
IMPORTANT:
- ensure participant choose skills they are able for
