‘The Floor’, Gymnastics Ireland’s headline participation event, took place for the first time ever yesterday. Held in the UL Sport Arena in Limerick, the inaugural event comprised 9 teams from 5 Clubs with over 200 gymnasts participating and a great crowd of spectators out in force to support. For this event Gymnastics Ireland brought the X-Factor to 'The Floor ' with increased investment in stage lighting, video recording, social media walls, sound production, live streaming and a fantastic MC in the shape of Shay Byrne from RTE. The Floor was a proper show in every way and saw a wide variety of performances from some of the best display teams in the country. Feedback has been great and it is clear the first outing for 'The Floor' was a huge success and was greatly enjoyed by the performers, the many spectators in Limerick and those following online through the social media competitions and Live Stream. Live Streaming on Facebook and YouTube was provided by our media partners, Hello Deer and gained huge traction with fans following and supporting their teams from the U.S, the U.K and Australia. Douglas Wildcats were awarded the best costumes on the day and Arabian Cheer Display were awarded most entraining performance with voting being carried out via a Twitter poll. Well done guys!

Eilis O’Hara is head coach of Arabian Gymnastics Club who specialise in display Gymnastics having attended many events in and outside Ireland, she was in touch with us after the event...

“I just wanted to send a huge thanks to the whole events team. The Floor completely exceeded my expectations & was probably the best run festival we've been to (and we've been to them all!) We will definitely be back next year. Congratulations on a top notch event!”
