1st November 2016, 00:00a.m.

The Federation of Irish Sport today announced the short list for the 2016 Sports Industry Awards and having been nominated in a very competitive category, Gymnastics Ireland is proud to have been shortlisted as a finalist for the NGB of the Year Award.

The finalists were chosen by a very experienced and knowledgeable judging panel including the Deputy Head of RTE sport, CEO of Business & Finance Media Group, Chairman of Wilson Hartnell PR & CEO of Sport for Business to name a few.  To be shortlisted by such a distinguished panel represents quite an achievement for Gymnastics Ireland.

The news follows on from our announcement earlier, that membership for Gymnastics Ireland has, for the first time, surpassed 20,000 direct members. Both news items reflect the growth of the sport seen through the eyes of the thousands of Irish people flocking to participate in the sport and through the eyes of those sports industry professionals who help to drive the business of sport in Ireland.

Gymnastics Ireland CEO, Ciaran Gallagher spoke today on the announcement.
“2016 has been a great year for Gymnastics Ireland, being shortlisted for NGB of the Year at the Sports Industry Awards is recognition of this from our peers in the sports sector. 2016 saw our membership hit 20,000 (an increase of 4000+ on 2015), record numbers enter our events programme, a key governance restructure of our Board, two gymnasts compete in Rio including our first female and our first junior European medal in an Olympic discipline. As we achieved all this we are entering the final construction and testing phase for our new home in the National Indoor Arena. Being shortlisted for this award is recognition for all our clubs, volunteers, staff & Board members who's hard work delivered all these great achievements.”

The awards take place on Nov 10th 2016 at The Round Room, The Mansion House, Dublin.
