Membership unanimously adopt new governance structure

The membership present at the EGM on Sunday 26th June 2016 unanimously voted in support of the governance restructure proposals as presented to the membership with the notice for the meeting on 31st May 2016. 
 
As per the restructure proposal for the first term of the new Board the current Board of Control met following the EGM to appoint the new Chair of the Board for this key first transitional term of 3 years to ensure a smooth changeover to the new structure. Ger Rellis was unamously appointed as Chair.
 
Speaking following the vote, Chair of the Board Ger Rellis stated...
 
'This was a good day for our sport, our membership have ensured we move forward with modern and effective governance structures that are in line with best practice. I would also like to thank my Board colleagues for their unanimous support for me as Chair in this crucial changeover first term. I would like to ensure the membership I will continue to work to develop our sport in Ireland, the future is full of opportunities.'

'Our new Board structure represents a huge step forward for our organisation. The balance of competency with representation and independent members will ensure we continue on our impressive strategic development trajectory. I look forward to working with the new Board following the upcoming AGM to develop our sport post Rio and into the new Olympic cycle.'
 
The AGM will be held on Sunday 24th July at the National Sports Campus. Notice and full information on nomination process will be sent to clubs and published online in the coming days.
