Trampoline, Tumbling & DMT National Championships 2016 Preview

Yesterday we presented you with a preview of the Acrobatic National Championships. Today it's the turn of Trampoline, Tumbling & DMT. Here we preview the National Championships event and provide some insight into some of the gymnasts in contention for honours.

Following the qualifying event on April 23rd, we have a strong field of gymnasts competing in the Trampoline, Tumbling & DMT National Championships this weekend in the UL Sport Arena in the University of Limerick. 

Killian Stuart from Cobra Gymnastics Club is a 16 year old talent who started competing in 2011 but progressed quickly to become National Elite 15-16 Trampoline Champion in 2014. He has represented Ireland at numerous International Trampoline Competitions including the Junior Trampoline & DMT European Championships 2014 and the Trampoline and DMT World Age Games 2014. Killian will be competing for honours in the category of FIG Trampoline 17-18.

Dwayne McCaffrey from UCD Trampoling Club has been competing at FIG trampoline for the last two years. Dwayne placed second at the 2015 National Championships. Dwayne also placed third in FIG Grand Prix and first in FIG men at the qualifiers.

Padraic Mc Conville is the reigning National Elite 15-16 Trampoline Champion he represents both Cobra Gymnastics Club and Tir Na nOg Newry.

Orla Coleman, also from UCD is competing NDP 2 and this year was awarded Most Valuable Team Player of the UCD Trampoline Club. Orla placed third at qualifiers and will be looking to keep herself on the podium at the National Championships!

Niamh Hutchinson will compete in the category of FIG Trampoline 15-16. Representing Cobra Gymnastics Club, the 15 year old started training trampoline competitively in November 2013 progressing to compete at World Age Games 2014 on DMT within 12 months of taking up the discipline. Niamh finished 2nd on DMT and 3rd in FIG level Trampoline at the National Championships in 2015. She also won a silver medal at the Valladolid Age Group competition in 2015 in the 13-14 DMT category.

Colm Galligan is competing NDP4 and is the incoming captain of the UCD Trampoline Club. Colm has had a steady rise through the trampoline levels. Colm is a level 2 trampoline coach (Also UCD Head Coach) and a level 1 judge. Colm placed first in both NDP4 15+ and in the NDP4 Grand Prix.

Molly Nightingale is representing Renmore Gymnastics Club and has made a come back after some time out in retirement. She’s a strong contender for the senior tumbling title.

Nicole Tianihad from UCD, is competing NDP 3 this weekend and placed third at NDP 2 15+ at the 2015 National Championships.

Hannah Gibney is competing NDP 1, she placed first at qualifiers last year and this year, but this is her first time qualifying for nationals. Hannah will be hoping to bring home a national title for her UCD club.

14 year old Hugo Kinahan from Renmore Gymnastics Club will be competing for junior title. He was at worlds in Daytona and since then he has improved on his consistency and hopes to improve on his scores from qualifiers to take the junior tumbling title.

Robin Twist is a UCD Alumni who is no stranger to competition. Robin placed second in NDP3 15+ at qualifiers but will be hoping to have a better performance at The National Championships as he unfortunately had a fall during his set routine at qualifiers. He’ll be in contention if he can get a clean routine in.

Fiona Browne is another UCD Alumni with lots of experience of competitions. Fiona has competed at NDP 2 for the last two years and will hope to have a strong showing this weekend after a steady showing at qualifiers.

Once again, this is a just a preview of some of the contenders for this weekend’s competition. The titles and trophies are up for grabs for all competitors… is there anyone missing from this list? Let us know who you think will be a contender this weekend!
