19th April 2017, Romania:  Andrew Smith finished 14th today with a score of 14.208 on Floor while fellow gymnast Rhys McClenaghan also finished in 14th position on Pommel Horse at the 2017 European Championships.

Speaking of their achievements today, Gymnastics Ireland CEO, Mr Ciaran Gallagher commented: 'Andy and Rhys hit solid and promising results at the first major championships of the new Olympic cycle today. Andy showed he is an experienced competitor with a super stylish floor routine placing 14th, while Rhys matched that ranking with a difficult Pommel Horse routine while competing as a 17 year-old first year senior. Two top 15 European finishes clearly demonstrate the potential of these gymnasts for this cycle. Congratulations to both, in addition to their coaches Luke Carson & Josh Champion, our judge Denis Donoghue and Performance & Technical Manager Sally Johnston'.
