5th August 2019: The National Series Super Camp concluded after a hugely successful week of gymnastics training and coaching development with international elite and Olympic coaches, an Olympic Panel Discussion with World & Olympic medallists Bryony Page, Flavius Koczi, Logan Dooley, gymnastics legend & Olympic medalist Daniela Silivas and a great display demonstration for supporting parents.
The new Gymnastics Ireland Super Camp for coach learning & gymnast development was a unique opportunity to get first-hand insight into the experience of top level gymnastics training & coaching for those who have and continue to pursue the Olympic dream and took take place for the first time from 29th July - 2nd August in the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena.
Six-time Olympic medallist, Daniela Silivas said about the coaching strategy at the camp;“I think incorporating every coach to help each other is very important and not just artistic gymnastics coaches working with artistic gymnastics and trampoline staying with trampoline, coaches working across disciplines together will help every gymnast and every coach develop.”
Coach to Olympic medallist Bryony Page, Paul Grieves added; “So for me having technical experts here, from Olympic champions to coaches that have produced Olympic medallists, the gymnasts are benefiting so much from learning little tiny techniques which will help them on a larger scale in terms of development. The coaches can also then ask questions of these experts to actually help their gymnasts develop in the future (…) they need the opportunity to be able to work with their gymnasts in this type of environment alongside experts that can help support and develop”
Irish Olympic Squad gymnast Bláthnaid Higgins shared her experience in relation to the camp and the opportunity to meet and be trained by International Olympic medallists;“It’s so cool, it’s unreal really, it’s an amazing experience, they have so much advice and tips to give us that you wouldn’t meet them on a regular basis like, it’s really special…”
Commenting on the successful week, Gymnastics Ireland Performance & Technical Manager, Sally Johnson said;“Great opportunity to have 3 disciplines come together to work with such world class and accomplished coaches and gymnasts. We couldn’t have hoped for a better week and I would like to thank all the clubs, coaches and gymnasts that took part. We are already planning for next year...”
Gymnastics Ireland CEO Mr Ciaran Gallagher added; "I would like to congratulate and thank the whole team who worked together to make our first National Series Super Camp such a success. We had a stellar line up of olympic medalists and expert coaches who imparted their knowledge and experience to help our young Irish gymnasts & their coaches develop further in pursuing their gymnastics careers. It was a great week of fun and enjoyable learning. Roll on next year...”
