14th September 2019: Irish gymnasts Adam Steele and Rhys McClenaghan finished qualifiers today at the 2019 FIG World Challenge Cup in Paris.

McClenaghan ranked 9th on Pommel-horse with a score of 14.100 following an unfortunate fall placing him as first reserve for the apparatus final tomorrow. Teammate Steele ranked 30th place on Floor with a score of 12.700 only 5 weeks after recovery post surgery on his finger.

Commenting on the competition Ciaran Gallagher, CEO Gymnastics Ireland said:

‘A mixed day for our guys in Paris. It was great to see Adam back to competition following his recovery from injury earlier in the summer however unfortunate for Rhys that a fall kept him from the Pommel final as he currently sits as first reserve. No one can fault their dedication and hard work in addition to that of their coaches Will Banthorpe & our National Centralised Programme Coach Luke Carson. They were supported by Judge Denis Donoghue & of course Sally Johnson our Performance & Technical Manager.’
