National Champions crowned across 5 disciplines in 1 huge weekend of competition

27th May 2019, Dublin: The Gymnastics Ireland 2019 FIG National Championships took place this 25th and 26th May in the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena as part of the National Series competitive stream with 1500 gymnasts from all around the country in the disciplines of Acrobatics, Men’s Artistic, Women’s Artistic, Rhythmic, Trampoline and Tumbling and 3000 spectators supporting.

The 2018 European Champion and recent 2019 World Cup silver pommel-horse medallist Rhys McClenaghan was on hand to perform his routine, in addition to FIG International level gymnasts Adam Steele and Meg Ryan who were crowned the Senior All-Around National Champions in Artistic Gymnastics.

The FIG Junior All-Around Artistic Gymnastics National Champions were Poppy Whelehan and Eamon Montgomery.

Junior gymnast Cliona McLaughlin hit gold on Tumbling becoming the National Champion in the female category as well as counterpart Cillian Kelly in the male category. In the Senior Tumbling category Molly Nightingale won gold after an impressive performance.

In the Trampoline discipline the FIG Senior Male title went to Ryan Devine and female counterpart Nicole Geaney. In the FIG Dev, 17-21 the title went to Corey Lacey and finally Niamh Hutchinson took the FIG 17-21 category title.

The Rhythmic competition saw Polina Pereyaslavets stepping onto the podium in first place as the 2019 Junior National Champion and finally in the Acrobatic Gymnastics discipline, the three FIG overall National Champion titles went to the women’s pair Aoibhín Condell & Ella Giglione in the 11-16 category; Briana Sheehan & Heather White in the 12-18 category and the women’s group Sarah Moran, Evana Downey & Ciara Boland in the 13-19 category.

The Gymnastics Ireland National Series FIG National Championships were a qualifying step for the upcoming ‘National Series Super Championships’ which will be held at the National Indoor Arena on 27th & 28th July 2019 where the best of the best from all disciplines across all ages and levels can be expected.
