GymABLE is Gymnastics Ireland’s inclusive programme targeted at providing gymnastics opportunities for people with disabilities, as well as increasing the awareness and understanding of disabilities and highlighting the huge benefits that doing gymnastics has for children with a disability. Each year and as part of this programme, member clubs in Ireland can apply for funding to either start up or further develop GymABLE in their clubs. The successful clubs in reception of 2020 funding were:

  • Aspire Gymnastics Club
  • Athy Gymnastics Club
  • Carlow Gymnastics Club
  • Citadel Gymnastics Club
  • Cork Acro Gymnastics Club
  • Excel Gymnastics Club
  • Supersonic Gymnastics Club
  • Trojan Gymnastics Club

In addition to this, Gymnastics Ireland provides a number of GymABLE Add-On Coaching Modules available online from this year. Two online modules were delivered in November, with over 55 coaches taking part. In 2021 there will be a suite of new disability educational workshops and club resources available for clubs and coaches online. To learn more about the GymABLE programme click here…

The 2020 theme of the International Day with Persons with a Disability is ‘Not all Disabilities are Visible’ which also focuses on spreading awareness and understanding of disabilities that are not immediately apparent, such as mental illness, chronic pain or fatigue, sight or hearing impairments, diabetes, brain injuries, neurological disorders, learning differences and cognitive dysfunctions, among others.
