Gymnastics Ireland clubs take to 'The Floor' once again!

14th June 2022, Dublin: Gymnastics Ireland’s flagship participation event - ‘The Floor’ took place on Sunday in the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena for the first time since 2019 due to Covid restrictions. The headline display event comprised 16 teams with over 300 gymnasts participating and a crowd of over 800 spectators supporting.

The Floor was a proper show in every way and saw a wide variety of performances ranging in age, discipline and ability presented by star MC and RTE radio broadcaster Shay Byrne.
This event celebrates participation in gymnastics, personal achievement, friendship, fun and team spirit bringing teams from all over the country together to showcase their sport.
Participation Manager Aimi Baker said: “We were delighted to finally see The Floor back in action again. The atmosphere was electric, with everyone from gymnasts, coaches, event staff and spectators in a state of excitement all day. We are already looking forward to and planning The Floor 2023, and we hope to see even more clubs taking part”.
At the end of the show every gymnast received a participation medal and a few teams were presented with awards by Gymnastics Ireland CEO Ciaran Gallagher, which showed special appreciation for some performances that stood out on the day.

- Impactful Moment Award – Coolmine Team United
- Creativity Award – Skerries Lion Cubs
- Performance Award – GymStars Sunday Sprinkles
- In the Mixed/ Senior category:
- Costume Award – DP Welcome to Wonderland
- Impactful Moment Award – GymStars Peak Technique
- Creativity Award – Blarney GC AND Salto Cork (TIE)
- Performance Award – Arabian Diamond Team

- Izzy Still, Amara Fogarty, Nicole Carroll and Sadie Trickett from Arabian Gymnastics Club (GC)
- Leah Quigley from Arklow GC
- Lauren Buckley from Blarney GC
