Hilton and Slevin complete qualifications at the 2022 World Championships in Liverpool

30.10.22 Liverpool, UK; Team Ireland’s Halle Hilton and Emma Slevin have today concluded competition at the 2022 World Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool. The senior gymnasts performed well after months of preparation with their top scores on Vault of 13.100 for Hilton and 12.833 for Slevin, ranking 63rd and 73rd respectively.

Commenting on the experience, Halle Hilton said: I think the build up to this competition has been really good. I've had a really good build up, a few little mistakes out in the arena, but that's always going to happen, stuff to learn from as well, but it was amazing, for my first World Championships it was an amazing experience. The crowd was so good. So many people supporting us all…”

Teammate, Emma Slevin added: I think it was a good competition considering the year in it and I think I really enjoyed it out there, like the crowd is really supporting us all the way on, like we got really loud cheers, which is really nice…”

Speaking from Liverpool, Sandra Stevenson, Gymnastics Ireland’s Women’s National Performance Coach and Sally Johnson, Performance and Technical Manager said: “Very proud of the girls and their performances today and how professional they have both been in training and in competition. Well done to Sally Batley and Josie Hayes on the support they have given the programme and the gymnasts on the final build up in these World Championships”

Commenting on the today’s performances Gymnastics Ireland CEO Mr. Ciaran Gallagher said: “Congratulations to Halle & Emma on completion of their Worlds qualifications - another huge event under their belt that will no doubt serve to help their development as they progress into 2023 and further along the Olympic qualification pathway. Well done Halle, Emma plus coaches Sandra, Sally & Josie, our Performance Manager Sally Johnson and Physio Julianne Ryan!"

Attention now shifts to the Men’s qualifications tomorrow Monday 31st October starting in Subdivision 4 from 3.50pm to 5.42pm Irish time where we will see Eamon Montgomery and Rhys McClenaghan competing on Floor and Pommel Horse respectively. Subdivision 6 will see Dominick Cunningham and Ewan McAteer compete in the All-Around qualification from 9.00 to 10.52pm.
