McClenaghan wins Silver at the Doha World Cup

04.03.22 Doha, Qatar; Ireland’s Rhys McClenaghan has won silver on Pommel-Horse at the 2022 Taishan Artistic Gymnastics World Cup apparatus finals in Doha with a score of 14.933. Teammates Eamon Montgomery and Adam Steele finished in 6th and 7th place respectively in the floor final with this being the first World Cup event for Eamon and the first international event of 2022 for all the Irish gymnasts.

Speaking about today’s results, Performance and Technical Manager Sally Johnson said:

'Great first outing for the team and a medal for Rhys. Well done to Eamon on his first Senior Competition making finals and to Adam also for making the floor final! The 3 gymnasts have secured their first points for the circuit ahead of the Cairo and Baku world cups this month.'

Gymnastics Ireland CEO Mr. Ciaran Gallagher added:

'A great debut for the Irish men at what is their first competition of 2022. 3 gymnasts qualifying 3 finals spots and a podium finish for Rhys on his specialist piece shows huge promise for this cycle plus important qualification points banked for all.
