Montgomery claims bronze in Baku World Cup!

02.04.22 Baku, Azerbaijan; Ireland’s Eamon Montgomery claimed Bronze at the floor final at the 2022 Artistic Gymnastics Apparatus World Cup in Baku. Montgomery, who scored 14.066 started competing for Ireland at the start of 2022 and has now achieved his first medal, establishing his place on the international circuit as a floor specialist. Teammate Adam Steele finished in 6th place on floor, and McClenaghan completed competition on pommel yesterday after unfortunate fall. This is the third international event of 2022 for all the Irish gymnasts.
Speaking about today’s results, Performance and Technical Manager Sally Johnson said:
"Great result for Eamon on his first World Cup floor medal! This has been a remarkable achievement for all 3 gymnasts on this World Cup circuit with a total of 4 medals. Well done to coaches Luke Carson and Connor McGovern and thanks to our Judge Denis Donoghue for all the help. This Final World Cup will determine the winners of the circuit by points and who qualifies to the World Championships..."
Gymnastics Ireland CEO Mr. Ciaran Gallagher added:
'The success for our mens team continues on the World Cup circuit... Huge congratulations to Eamon who has made a huge impression over the last 3 events going from World Cup newcomer, to finalist and now medalist! A well deserved reward for years of hard work and a very promising sign for his senior career. Congratulations also to Adam Steele for his 6th place results in the final - more key qualification points in the bank for both gymnasts. It wasn't Rhys' day yesterday but we are all fully aware of what he is capable of. Everyone in Gymnastics Ireland is super proud of the lads and also the coaches - huge congrats to Luke Carson, Conor McGovern & Will Banthorpe! Congratulations also to our Performance & Techical Manager Sally Johnson and judge for the event Denis Donoghue. We look forward to welcoming them back in Dublin!’
