Gymnastics for All Colloquium 2023 - Wrap up!

Gymnastics Ireland proudly attended the Gymnastics for All Colloquium 2023 that took place this week in Athens, Greece and featured a series of discussions on important aspects for Gymnastics festivals and events like the staging of events, their goals and benefits, as well as ensuring these events are sustainable and leave a legacy.

Gymnastics for All is the center of two signature FIG events: The World Gymnaestrada and The World Gym for Life Challenge. Both of which are held at four-year intervals, with an alternating timetable assuring there is an international event every two years. Both are in essence a celebration of Gymnastics performance, open to participants of all disciplines.

With over 40 member federation attending from around the globe it was a unique opportunity for colaboration and idea sharing between nations.

Gymnastics Ireland Participation Manager Aimi Baker, who represented Ireland at this event said:

"This year's FIG Gymnastics for All annual conference was fantastic!. With over 40 gymnastics federations from around the world, the week long conference was a hub of discussing, sharing, and learning around the area of GFA - gymnastics for all.

A key focus of the week was the upcoming FIG World Gymnaestrada taking place in august in Amsterdam. This event will host over 20,000 participants from all over the world to perform display routines of all shapes, sizes and complexity. This year Gymnastics Ireland are sending one team of 28 gymnasts aged from 12-30yrs, who are practicing and perfecting their display routine.

Gymnastics Ireland participation event ‘the Floor’ is part of our involvement in FIG’s GFA programme. The Floor takes place each year in the summer in the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena and is open to all levels of ability, ages and disciplines. We encourage all member clubs to find out how the can get involved and take part at this year's event."

The Floor is Gymnastics Ireland's annual flagship participation based event, where member clubs have the opportunity to put on an entertainment spectacle for an enthusiastic crowd of gymnastics fans to show how skillful, fun, entertaining & exciting gymnastics is.

In addition participating in The Floor provides a pathway for teenage girls to remain involved in our sport beyond competition. As part of a display group, teenage girls have the can build lifelong friendships, work as part of a team, share their skills and talent all whilst having FUN.

This event will take place on 11th June 2023.
