Historic Final for Irish Gymnasts in Acro World Cup Puurs

09.04.23 Puurs, Belgium; Irish gymnasts Kyal Reid, Sergei Sandu, Aoibhinn Condell and Aoibhinn Holahan made history for Ireland by making 2 partnership finals in 6th and 7th place respectively at the senior event in the FIG Acrobatics World Cup in Puurs, Belgium. This is the first time the Acrobatic gymnastics discipline has taken part in a World Cup in 19 years.
Gymnastics Ireland National Acrobatics Coach Victoria Pattison said:
"So incredibly proud of these three senior partnerships. Not only did they come and take part in the first world cup competition for Ireland in 19 years but they did an amazing job! 2 mixed pairs through to finals yesterday finishing in 6th and 7th. What an achievement for Ireland and a great start to the rest of their senior year."
Gymnastics Ireland Performance and Technical Manager, Sally Johnson said:
"Fantastic to see both our Mixed pairs making the World Cup final, this is a great achievement for them and for Ireland to make a World Cup final first in 19 years!"
To add to the successful Acrobatics weekend, an Irish Women's pair competing at the Flanders International Acro Cup that also took place in Belgium made podium in their category... "A special well done also to gymnasts Kirsten and Lily our senior Women’s Pair in the Flanders International Acro Cup (FIAC) for their silver medal performance. This has been an incredible weekend of results for our Acro discipline! Well done to all our gymnasts, coaches, judges and clubs!" Sally Johnson added.
