27th April 2024, 16:43p.m. | International
Rimini, Italy; Dominick Cunningham
competed in the Senior Vault Finals this afternoon placing 5th at European
Championships with an average score of 13.966 at Artistic Gymnastics European
Championships 2024.
Dom on his vault performance said:
"European Vault final, 5th in Europe is a great achievement. I am happy, but I know they weren't my best vaults. My aim was to land on my feet and going last up was a big challenge. I didn’t get the best block on my vaults but I managed to get them around to my feet, which is the main thing. It gives me inspiration to graft and go again so I’m looking forwards to the future with what I will do next and I’m excited for it. Thank you to Gymnastics Ireland for the support and let’s go and get ready for the next one!"
National Coach, Luke Carson commenting on the performance in the final:
“Great performance from Dom today. 5th in Europe is amazing. Second vault has room for upgrades and that is exciting"
High Performance and Technical Manager, Sally Johnson added:
"A great result for Dominick in Vault Finals to conclude the European Championships for MAG. Super composed performance by James in his first final in a major event. Now for the Paris Games for Rhys and the qualifications for Northern European Championships for the rest of the MAG team!
Best of luck to Women’s team starting in Rimini!"
Also commenting on the performance, CEO Ciaran Gallagher said:
“Huge congrats to Dom on his 5th place finish in today’s senior European Vault final. The 3 place improvement from qualifications in finishing 5th is no surprise given what an experienced competitor he is and familiar territory for him as one of the best gymnasts in Europe. Well done to Dom, our national coaches and support staff!”
Next up is Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships next week. Qualifications begin Thursday May 2nd at 0900 Irish Time. Stay tuned for more to come!
