About the team

The team of 22 gymnasts aged 11-18 years from Arklow Gymnastics Club’s Display Squad will make history this July 2024 when they carry the Irish flag around Bodø, Norway at the 14th EUROGYM, a non-competitive, six-day display gymnastics festival, which will bring together over 6,000 athletes from different countries to perform on an international stage.

Speaking at about the team, Michael Kenny of Arklow Gymnastics Club said:

"It’s a huge honour for our gymnasts to be representing Ireland at EUROGYM and it’s a massive opportunity for them to show what they can do on the international stage. Our display squad gives the gymnasts the chance to perform with their friends without the added pressure of being out there on their own. We are working hard on the new routine for EUROGYM. An exciting part of building the new routine is to listen to the ideas for elements and dance that the gymnasts bring to the sessions. We are lucky to have some very creative young gymnasts in the group, which is great for the club moving forward”.

Commenting on the announcement, Gymnastics Ireland Participation Manager Aimi Baker said:

“EUROGYM, is European Gymnastics’ biggest event in terms of participation. This non-competitive festival of Gymnastics provides an amazing showcase for Gymnastics for All (GfA). This year there will be nearly 6,000 participants from 16 countries from around Europe, including for the first time, an Irish team taking part. We are delighted to have an Irish team travelling to this display event in Bodø, Norway this summer, and I am sure it will be an unbelievable experience for coaches, and gymnasts alike. We hope their journey will inspire more Irish clubs to get involved in International GfA Events”.
