Final for Whelan & Somers at Burgas International Acro Cup 2026

Gymnastics Ireland's Acrobatics Youth Women's pair and Senior Women's pair conclude Burgas International Acro Cup and World Cup 2026. 

Kirstin Brennan and Emma Furlong competed in their first Senior World Cup. On the first day of qualifications the pair competed their balance routine scoring a 26.020 finishing the day in 8th. The following day the gymnasts competed in their dynamic routine scoring a 25.750 which placed them in 9th narrowly missing out on the final by .08. A great achievement in their first world cup together as a pair. 

Ireland's Youth Women's pair Sophia Whelan and Maddison Somers started their competition in the Acro Cup qualifications scoring a 26.200 in their balance routine placing 6th. The gymnasts competed their dynamic routine the following day scoring a 26.280 placing 6th and making their combination final. The girls competed on Sunday in the final scoring a 26.380 placing them 6th overall. Great achievement for the young pair.

"Great achievement at the World Cup for Kirstin Brennan and Emma Furlong! Beautiful routines and the high scores to match. Competing at a World Cup is a huge accomplishment, and to be the first Senior Women’s Pair from Ireland to do so makes it even more special. Kirstin and Emma should be incredibly proud of their performances. They showed great composure on the world stage and proved they belong among the best. This is just the beginning, and there is so much to look forward to as they continue to gain experience and build towards future international success.

Also a huge congratulations to Sophia and Maddi on holding their 6th place in the Burgas Acro Cup Final! A monumental achievement and one that reflects all of their hard work, dedication, and commitment they have put into their training. The girls delivered fantastic performances and earned excellent scores to match, competing confidently against strong international competition.

This experience provides invaluable preparation as they continue to progress and develop, and it is an exciting step forward in their acrobatic gymnastics journey. The future looks very bright!"
