Hickey 6th in European Junior Final!

Rimini, Italy; James Hickey competed in the Pommel Horse Final this morning placing 6th at his first Junior European Championships with a score of 13.466 at the Artistic Gymnastics Junior European Championships 2024.

Speaking straight after the final James commented on his performance:

“Still can’t believe I’m the third junior from Ireland to make a final. I am so grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given by gymnastics Ireland, phoenix gymnastics and my parents."

Junior National Coach, Andy Smith added:

“Brilliant result for James, he's up on his score and position from qualification and is within the top 6 pommel workers in Europe, so he should be tremendously proud!"

Also commenting on the performance, CEO Ciaran Gallagher said:

“Superb result for James in a top level final! Improved his score and placing from qualifications shows such a level of maturity from a young gymnast in his first European Final. James definitely has put his name on the map today - exciting future ahead! Congratulations to James and family/friends, our national coaches Andy & Sergey plus his personal coach Wayne and his team at Phoenix GC."
