11.11.23 Birmingham, UK; Irish gymnast Cian Hayes finished in 20th place in the 2023 Tumbling Semifinals World Championships in Birmingham earlier today after a great performance in his first Senior Event, making history as Ireland’s first ever Tumbling Senior at a World Championships.

Team Ireland’s Ryan Devine finished competing Thursday ranking 38th in the Trampoline World Championships with a personal best of 56.380 after a strong performance.

Talking about their experience Devine and Hayes said: “It’s been a long year with lots of hard work so to see it pay off for both of us at the biggest event of our careers so far makes it all worthwhile. We are looking forward to getting back into the gym and building towards the European Championships”.

Gymnastics Ireland’s National Tumbling Coach added: “I’m super proud of Cian stepping up from Junior ranks onto the Senior World Stage as Ireland’s first ever Tumbling Senior at a World Championships. Then to make a semifinal in a field of truly World Class gymnasts was a privilege to watch and be a part of”

Commenting on the event Gymnastics Ireland’s Head of Trampoline & Tumbling said: “It’s been an amazing trip for both of our Senior Men. Ryan made a huge step up in terms of performance placing 38th in a huge field of 100, only 1.2 points from a Semi Final. And for Cian to make a World Semi Final in his first outing is testament to Cian and Elaine’s years and years of hard work at home in Galway.

It’s a very exciting time for the Trampoline & Tumbling disciplines in Ireland with the programme developing rapidly. I’m looking forward to our Age Group Trampoline Gymnasts arriving on Monday and hoping the performances this week have inspired this next generation”.

Attention now shifts to the upcoming 2023 Trampoline World Age Group Championships from 13th - 20th where gymnasts Ewan McGillycuddy, Laoise Cox, Fionnuala Mulholland and Jay Downey will be competing. Stay tuned for updates!
