Team Ireland’s Men’s Artistic gymnasts have completed qualifications at the 2026 World Championships in Rotterdam.
All-Around (AA) gymnast Adam Steele achieved an AA score of 73.231 ranking 78 at his 4th World Championships with his highest score of 13.766 on vault. Ireland’s Olympic champion Rhys McClenaghan scored 14.400 on pommel horse after returning to the World stage since the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, whilst teammate James Hickey who also competed on pommel scored 12.400 at his first ever Worlds qualification. Gymnasts Eamon Montgomery and Chester Enriquez who both competed on floor, also at World level, third time for Montgomery and first time for Hickey, scored 13.500 and 12.800, respectively.
Gymnastics Ireland Performance & Technical Director Sally Johnson said:
“Our gymnasts have arrived at these Championships exceptionally well prepared following months of focused training, detailed performance monitoring, and valuable international competition exposure. The collective work of the gymnasts, coaches, and support staff has been thorough and purposeful, ensuring each athlete arrived in Rotterdam physically prepared, technically refined, and confident in their routines. They are well placed to deliver performances that reflect the continued progress of the men's programme. Equally important, the experience gained at this level will provide a valuable platform for the next phase of the international cycle, with preparations continuing towards 2027 and the pursuit of individual Olympic qualification.”
Gymnastics Ireland CEO Ciaran Gallagher added:
‘Superb performances from our men’s team in Rotterdam. They have demonstrated they are on track as we head into the qualification pathway for the LA28 games showing top level difficulty on the biggest stage in our sport. Congrats to the lads, our coaches, judges and support staff!’
Well done and congratulations to all gymnasts, coaches and judges.
Next up is the Women’s Qualifications tomorrow (Monday) 19th October at 20:10-21:30 Irish time in Subdivision 10, where we will see Emma Slevin and Mimi Moloney competing. Stay tuned!
