High-Performance gymnasts back on Sport Ireland Campus

15th June 2020; A select number Gymnastics Ireland High Performance gymnasts have returned to training at the National Gymnastics Training Centre (NGTC) in Dublin following the government’s announcement regarding HP return to sport as part of what is now Phase 2+.
“It’s great to be back, it really is. To be training in this amazing facility is just fantastic” said pommel-horse star and Olympic hopeful Rhys McClenaghan who is amongst the selected male gymnasts. On the Women’s end, Youth Olympic Games finalist Emma Slevin, World Cup medallists Meg Ryan (Olympic Reserve) & Jane Heffernan plus team-mates Kate Molloy & Blathnaid Higgins have returned also.
RTÉ Sports News reporter David Kelly was on hand at the NGTC to talk to the gymnasts about the announcement and what it means for our sport.
Speaking of the announcement, CEO of Gymnastics Ireland, Mr. Ciaran Gallagher said:
“It’s great to see our top performance gymnasts return to the National Gymnastics Training Centre at the Sport Ireland Campus today. This is following the government’s announcement that select HP athletes could return to sport as part of what is now phase 2+. Our thanks to our partners in DTTAS, Sport Ireland, the Olympic Federation of Ireland and the Federation of Irish Sport for all the efforts that went into making this happen. Our clubs continue to work along our wider GI Return to Sport (RTS) plan ensuring all necessary measures are put in place to protect the health of our members while we await final confirmation that they can return to activity in the near future.”
