28th March 2021, 20:41p.m. | National

Gymnastics Ireland closed out March with the "Nutrition for Gymnasts" webinar hosted by consultant dietitian, Paula Mee. This online event succeeded at engaging parents as well as coaches with an interest in Nutrition.

With a scientific basis and a practical approach, Paula Mee gave a nutritional guide, including meals and planning for parents, designed to encourage better quality, variety and diversity of food, gut and overall health, emphasizing the importance of an adequate sports diet for optimal performance.

The webinar also covered what to eat and when to eat and tackled some of the challenges gymnasts face like limited time to eat and nerves at competition.

Gymnastics Ireland Participation Manager, Aimi Baker, said:

“Paula delivered a fantastic webinar today on Nutrition and the Gymnasts' Needs. There was so much great practical information for coaches and parents and of course the gymnasts. It is such an important part of every gymnasts training to ensure they have a healthful diet that supports their training and competition at every level. I am sure everyone will have taken away something different from the presentation and hopefully can make some positive changes to help the gymnasts reach their gymnastic goals and potential!”
