1st April 2021, 19:47p.m. | National
Gymnastics Ireland kicked off April with the "Safeguarding & Member Welfare" webinar hosted this evening by Dermot Howlin.
This online event covered important safeguarding updates, Sport Ireland’s Club Auditing Framework, the Children First Act 2015/Child Safeguarding Statement and legislation update. "Really delighted with the numbers that attended tonight’s webinar. We covered some really important topics including vetting, safeguarding training, legislation and we also advised attendees about the recent launch by Sport Ireland of the Club Safeguarding Self-Assessment Framework. I hope the webinar was of benefit to Clubs and in particular our Club Children’s Officers as they continue their safeguarding work." said Dermot Howlin, Gymnastics Ireland Policy, Welfare & Compliance Manager.
Dermot has been working with Gymnastics Ireland for the past 13 years. He represents Gymnastics Ireland on external committees and in various forums to ensure our voice is represented and that we are at the fore-front of safeguarding and compliance matters for our sport/organisation. Recently Dermot delivered a presentation as part of a series of safeguarding webinars organised in the framework of the European Union and Council of Europe joint project “Child Safeguarding in Sport”. The webinar was attended by over 20 Countries and showcased successfully implemented systems of Child Safeguarding Officers in five European countries/organisations.
