Celebrating Women in Sport Week 2026

4th March 2026, 17:30p.m. | National

Women in Sport Week is an annual Sport Ireland initiative taking place from March 2-8th, 2026.

Women in Sport Week was created to coincide with International Women’s Day (March 8th). A day widely celebrated across the world focusing on the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women as well as highlighting the challenges, barriers and inequalities that still exist. Women in Sport Week supports the objectives and actions outlined within Sport Ireland’s Policy on Women in Sport (WIS), in which Visibility is a key pillar.

The aim of Women in Sport Week is to:

  • Celebrate every woman and girl who participates, coaches, officiates, volunteers, leads or works in sport.
  • Promote and highlight the ongoing work on Women in Sport.
  • Highlight some of the Women in Sport programmes/initiatives.

Call to clubs

Gymnastics Ireland is happy to join Sport Ireland in the celebration, and would like to invite all our member clubs to take part in Women in Sport Week.

During Women in Sport Week, we would love for your club to join us in highlighting and sharing content that celebrates your female participants of all ages and in all roles. This includes:

  • Gymnasts — from your youngest participants to adults, from recreational to competitive
  • Coaches and assistant coaches
  • Judges and officials
  • Volunteers and committee members
  • Administrators and club leaders
  • Alumni who have shaped your club’s history

We encourage clubs to share photos, short videos, athlete spotlights, interviews, testimonials, throwbacks, and behind-the-scenes moments that reflect the diversity and impact of women within your community. Whether it’s a kid mastering her first cartwheel or a long-time coach mentoring the next generation, every story matters.

By sharing these stories across your website and social media platforms, you will help inspire future generations, strengthen community connections, and reinforce the vital role women play in sport at every level.

Tag Gymnastics Ireland on your posts: we will share your content with the community!

Same Energy

Sport Ireland's theme for Women in Sport Week 2026 is “Same Energy”. Same Energy challenges us to ask whether we’re bringing the same energy, excitement, commitment and visibility to women’s sport as we do to in men’s sport. Whether it's planning for the next international fixture or deciding on budgets for the year ahead, Same Energy is a call to everyone; sports administrators, fans, coaches, officials, organisations, and communities to get behind women and girls in sport and match that energy.
