Strategy Launch & New Board at 2025 AGM

The 2025 Gymnastics Ireland (GI) Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place yesterday evening, Thursday 10th July.

Shane O'Connor (Chair) and Ciaran Gallagher (Chief Executive) reported on a very successful year with some key highlights as follows:

• Record 40k individual members.
• Record 10k gymnasts and 30k ticket buying spectators in our events programme covering participation to performance levels.
• Strong financial performance.
• Hosting of Ireland’s first podium level events including the 'Next Gen Championships' and the '2024 Northern European Championships' as a pilot for a regular international in Dublin.
• First Irish sport to complete an Equality Review with the Irish Human Rights & Equality Commission who referenced GI as a benchmark for sporting and cultural institutions in Ireland.
• Increased investment & growth in our participation, inclusion & 'Gymnastics for All' programmes.
• Expanded investment in our performance programme covering HP coaching and athlete support services.
• Gymnasts from multiple disciplines hitting our HP Strategy benchmark standard of 'final & medal potential'.
• Rhys McClenaghan securing his 3rd European title and becoming Ireland’s first Olympic gymnastics champion.

Finally the members present ushered in a new Board for the July 2025-2028 term that will see us through to LA 28.

As per the constitution the Nominations Committee (NC) performed its function as follows:

• The NC confirmed that the required skill sets as laid out in our ‘Board & Board Officer Roles Description’ document had been fulfilled.
• The NC confirmed that the Sport Ireland 40% gender quota (each gender) had been fulfilled.
• Finally the NC confirmed that no individual had exceeded the max term limit.

The membership ratified the following Board members that had been selected by the NC for direct appointment:

• Chair: Shane O'Connor
• Member Officer: Eavanna Fitzgerald
• Member Officer: Colm Galligan
• Independent Officer: Roddy Guiney
• Independent Officer: Karen Coventry

The NC also vetted the nominees received for elected positions to ensure that candidates met the defined criteria for the roles. The following Board members were elected:

• Deputy Chair: Ruth Larragy
• Member Representative Officer: Denis Donoghue
• Member Representative Officer: Clare Sheenan
• Member Representative Officer: Aoife Lusted

Shane O'Connor thanked outgoing Board members Ger Rellis & Colm Murray for the huge impact they have had during their time on the Board. He also welcomed new members Colm Galligan, Denis Donoghue, Clare Sheenan & Aoife Lusted in addition to the returning Board members.
