2017 in Review - History made, success gained and growth all round

Irish Sport HQ, Dublin; 2017 was another great year for the sport of gymnastics in Ireland, from significant increase in membership through to a historic World Cup triumph, there is no doubt that Gymnastics Ireland is solidifying its place as one of the largest Olympic sports in the country.  As we look back at the achievements of 2017 some of the key highlights include...

• Membership growth of 8000 members from 2016 to hit over 25,000 in 2017 making us one of largest Olympic national governing bodies in Ireland.
• The Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena including the new National Gymnastics Training Centre opened and is now the national base of operations for our events, education and performance programmes.
• Record entries of over 7000 participants in our national events programme covering participation through to performance levels.
• Rhys McClenaghan made history claiming gold on Pommel Horse at the 2017 World Cup in Croatia.
• We launched our new GymABLE inclusion programme for people with disabilities.
• 4,000 gymnasts and their families attended the GymSTART Challenge participation events programme
• We launched our new High Performance Strategy 2020+, a strategy that highlights how success will be delivered by Irish gymnasts on the international stage in the years to come. To review the full strategy (related downloads below).
• We experienced a growth in our social media channels of 31% according to the 2017 Sportgeo Irish Sport Social Medial Review. This increase represents a total of 25,000 gymnastics fans in our online community across all our social media channels.
